Why Did you Ever Let Us Go

I remember when we were young, in love, you were my best friend, love never quite reached the end

why did you ever let us go

Sparks shone in our eyes brought us together keeping us warm while we walk here amongst the purple heather.

One day you told me you were going away to a faraway shore

a place where we could not meet no more

You stood and watched my tears overflow I could not understand

I am no more than a speck blowing from sand

Now a thousand miles between us, left behind in the wilderness on my own

why did you ever let us go

I catch more tears you see them drop into my hand

I shouted go away as far as you can

why did you ever let us go

Out of sight, out of mind, is better this way to be more kind and leave me, for if you do not 

I shall want to go with you too

I sit here by the fireside watching  flames glow
